HRM
Soundstage at the Maidstone River Festival on Saturday July 26th. | Time | Name |
|
12.00-12.40 | The Bodegas Perennial River Festival favourites The Bodegas are
no strangers to the Soundstage; they’re no strangers to the River Festival either,
and with their bold and brassy renditions of your favourite tunes they are guaranteed
to get the 2008 HRM Soundstage going with style! www.thebodegas.net |
|
1.00-1.40 | Green Diesel Playing pop/blues/folk-ish (somewhere between the Zutons,
KT Tunstall and REM) Green Diesel thought of their name long before it was £1.30
a litre. They do however provide turbocharged power balanced with economy, low
emissions and reliability… www.myspace.com/thegreendieseltheory
2.00-2.40 | Hard 2 Handle Pretty songs about flower pressing, played by smiley
people dressed as angels on triangles and harps is just about as far as you can
get from Hard 2 Handle’s good old fashioned no-nonsense rock favourites. www.hard2handle.net
3.00-3.40 | Jack High Straight Influenced by We Are Scientists, Lost Prophets, Blink
182 and Feeder Jack High Straight take their eclectic influences all the way from
old school punk, jazz samba and all stations to Charing Cross… www.myspace.com/jackhighstraightuk |
|
4.00-4.40 | The Very Wonderful Long Teddies An enigma for as long as the River Medway has been
flowing, nobody really knows what their name means, they’re not long, and they’re
not teddies. They are however Very Wonderful. |
|
5.00-5.40 | Jokin’ Apart The good time rock ‘n’ roll band that has in previous
years made Friday night at the River Festival special this time bring their magic
to Saturday, playing a stirring set of classics with a unique twist… www.myspace.com/jokinapart
6.00-6.40 | Billy Wears Dresses There is a tendency to describe bands as sounding ‘a
bit like’ or ‘influenced by’ (see above) but Billy Wears Dresses are quite unlike
any band we’ve ever had on the Soundstage, with a unique style and sound that
has got them noticed by both KM-FM and BBC Radio Kent! www.billywearsdresses.com |
|
7.00-8.00 | Wob Wob is a little guy with a gargantuan set of vocal
chords and the bouncy and boundless energy of a, er, bouncy ball. We have never
quite recovered from Wob’s amazing performance from 2005’s Soundstage, and it
will be great to have him back in 2008! www.wobmusic.com
8.30-9.45 | The Mofos As soon as The Mofos played their first song when they
opened last year’s HRM Soundstage we knew we had our headlining band sorted for
2008. Get a good place nice and early and be prepared to party www.themofos.co.uk |
Local
indie and hard rock bands announced for Tentertainment 2008
Tenterden Recreation Ground 12pm 8pm, Sunday,
July 27, 2008 The best up-and-coming young
indie and hard rock bands from Tenterden and the surrounding area will be performing
great original music at this years Tentertainment Summer Event on Tenterden
Recreation Ground on Sunday, July 27. And its FREE! The
local line up includes D-FiNiTiVe, the Isaac Howlett Band, Quarter Bag
and Sikhona, who will be supporting jazz, jive and rhythm n blues
legends Hullabaloo and The Jive Aces. D-FiNiTiVe,
Tenterdens very own answer to Keane and the Stereophonics, will be leading
the Kent Young Turks at this years Tentertainment. This young and exciting
three-piece indie and Brit Rock band, combine talent, energy and passion with
a very tight on-stage performance that saw them support The Sugababes at KOKO
in Camden and win the KMFM Battle of the Bands in 2007. Lead singer Jacob Howard-Arnold
is accompanied by younger brother, and guitarist/vocalist, Caleb, and percussionist
Matt Biggar. The lads hail from Tenterden and Hamstreet and all were students
at Homewood School. Playing many of their own songs they have been influenced
by Snow Patrol, Coldplay, Athlete, New Radicals, The Supernaturals and Dodgy.
Singer-songwriter Isaac Howlett grew up in
nearby Egerton, but has been living and working in London for the past few years,
building a reputation as a highly-talented and charismatic performer. In London
he met and joined forces with Paul Wellers bassist, Dave Foster, and Coldplays
drummer, Jon Brooker, to form the Isaac Howlett Band. They have gained a reputation
on the London music scene for their unique sound and captivating presence influenced
by Led Zeppelin, Yes and The Cure. Likened to legends James, REM and early U2,
Issac and his band never fail to impress with their unique brand of no-nonsense,
acoustic rock. Quarter Bag are a three-piece
punk rock band from the Weald. Lead vocalist and guitarist Will Atkins, bassist
Billy James and drummer Will Fowler have been playing gigs across Kent, East Sussex
and London for the past three years sharing the stage with Monsoon Party, Billy
Rebel, Intraverse, Off Limit and Antikid. Influenced by Green Day, The Clash,
Rancid, Muse, Sex pistols and The Libertines, they will be playing an arsenal
of their own original songs which saw them reach the finals of the 2007 Battle
of the Bands. Sikhona are an indie, hard-rock
acoustic four-piece band consisting of James Kirby (Vocals/Guitar), Tom Arnott
(Bass/Backing Vocals), Neil Williams (Drums) and Tom Pierce (Lead Guitar). They
have been performing their own songs across Kent and London for the past four
years or so and have amassed nearly three albums worth of material. Influenced
by and likened to Snow Patrol, Bush, early U2, Radiohead, Bloc Party, Keane and
Goo Goo Dolls, this could be the year they really break through.
Tentertainment will be held on the Tenterden Recreation
Ground on Sunday, July 27 and will run from 12 noon to 8pm. Apart from the live
music there will be entertainers, the Kent Circus School, and fun and games for
all the family. And plenty of fantastic local food on offer, including the quintessential
strawberries and cream, plus a Beer Tent and Summer Cocktail Tent.
Anyone who would like to get involved with Tentertainment,
either through sponsorship or by helping out on the day, should contact Andy Usher
on 01580 766123. For more information on
what else is happening in Tenterden visit www.tenterdentown.co.uk.

be able to let you in)!
If it's ok with you we will collect a £5 donation at the gate on the

Paul
Dunton presents Local & Live 2008 August 22nd - 25th The 3rd
annual free showcase of local original music on The Pantiles Bandstand Featuring
52 acts over 3 ½ days www.localandlive.org www.pauldunton.co.uk Sponsored
by Alert5.co.uk Following
the success of last year's event which drew crowds of around 3000 people, Tunbridge
Wells based singer/songwriter Paul Dunton will be staging 'Local & Live' 2008
on the Pantiles Bandstand over the late August bank holiday weekend (22nd-25th). This
year's event is expected to attract even larger audiences and will feature 52
leading local musical acts performing their own material over four days. This
superb free festival offers unrivalled variety and a standard of musicianship
that is first class with Local & Live 2007 receiving rave reviews including
a glowing commendation from Gregg Clarke MP. This was added to by an enthusiastic
endorsement from the Courier Newspaper and backed up by over 2000 signatures and
gestures of good will from the local community who attended the event. Even more
impressive is the fact that the event attracted sponsorship from over 26 local
businesses' which adds to the view that 'Local & Live' is arguably Tunbridge
Wells' premier musical event. In the build up to
this year's event, Paul is giving away 5,000 free copies of the 'Local and Live'
compilation CD featuring one song from all of the participating artists, together
with a full colour programme. "People can also pick up a copy of the CD and
programme at the festival," Paul assures. ''Local
& Live is a free musical event to be enjoyed by the local community in the
enchanting and historic setting of The Pantiles. My passion is local, original
acoustic music and through my weekly shows at The Grey Lady Music Lounge and this
annual musical extravaganza, I am endeavouring to raise awareness of the undoubted
creative musical talent that resides in the local area. With a multitude of musical
genres and styles on display, there is something for everyone's musical taste
buds!'' "The 2008 festival is also dedicated to the memory of Ollie Nicholls
who tragically died in a car accident in late March of this year. From now on
the 'musicians' tent will be named after him. Ollie was right at the hub of the
local music scene, which we built together. Ollie was a brilliant musician, singer/songwriter,
record producer and sound technician. He was a very popular and highly respected
soloist at The Grey Lady and supervised the sound for every show and previous
Local & Live events. Ollie was a true gentleman with a great sense of humour
and he touched the lives of so many people and his memory will live on forever.
The Local & Live 2008 compilation CD will feature tracks from his debut solo
Album which will be released soon'' said Paul. 'Local
and Live 2008' kicks off on Friday 22nd August at 7pm with a stirring performance
by Jamie Boyle. Headliners 'The Rox' will wrap up the evening with their set starting
at 9:55pm. Saturday 23rd starts at 12:30pm with superb
local acts playing all afternoon. Headliners 'The Original Sinners' will begin
their set at 9:45pm. Sunday 24th gets underway at
12:30pm with Tom Hunt, and concludes with 'The Violet Jive' at 8:55pm. The
pace stays strong on Monday 24th starting at 12:30pm with 'Staring at Goats'.
The festival will close with a performance by the acclaimed 'Sevenscore' at 9:55pm.
"There'll be music all weekend long so come
on down to the Pantiles and enjoy it with friends," said Paul. "The
Pantiles is packed full of quality cafes and bars too." For
a full line up of bands playing throughout the weekend, visit the official festival
website: www.localandlive.org. The new owners
of The Pantiles, Targetfollow, are delighted to support 'Local and Live 2008':
"Promoting local art is one of our key social commitments so it's natural
that we should get behind this great event at The Pantiles," said Centre
Manager, Andrew Gower. "I'll be enjoying the sights and sounds for sure."

Kent communications company and part of the Active Digital group of companies
who are based in Paddock Wood and is endorsed by 3 x Olympic medalist, Steve Backley
OBE. Please visit www.alert5.co.uk for more information. Additional
support and sponsorship has once again come from Tunbridge Wells based company;
INSAFE LTD and Tonbridge based MCM NET LTD. Both companies have been integral
to the success of Local & Live over the last two years, with INSAFE LTD providing
much needed sponsorship, marketing and organisational support along MCM NET LTD
who built the events website free of charge and continue to maintain the site
year upon year. Much of this also rests on the hard
work of Paul Dunton who has been instrumental in developing the towns 'original
acoustic scene' following his highly successful shows at The Grey Lady Music Lounge
(situated on the Pantiles) on Wednesday & Sunday nights. 'An Evening with
Paul Dunton & Guests' is now considered one of the most eclectic and professionally
run acoustic shows in the UK with 100 local acts performing on a rotational basis.
Paul brings the same professionalism and talent to Local & Live and outlines
