Beer mat “building” competition – Beer prizes for winning team - 8:30pm onwards

The Frittenden Festival is a village-based event focusing on the traditional singing, dancing, music and drama of South-Eastern England.
There will be stepdancing workshops in the morning starting at 10.30am, followed by singing, playing and step-dancing sessions at lunchtime, events including a concert during the afternoon, and a songs and tunes session and a dance will run concurrently during the evening from about 8pm.

Two very special guests are the superb singer from Derbyshire Jack Crawford and Vic Ellis, from Brighton, an outstanding one-man band of today who was inspired to take up his astonishing instruments by a legendary one man band from the past, Albert Farmer of Lingfield in Sussex. We’re also delighted to have David Campbell, an excellent singer who lived in Kent for many years.

Other artists lined include local star singer and anglo concertina player Andy Turner, Nigel Hobbins (read about him here), celebrated singer and MC Peter Collins, and Rattlebag, harmony singers from Hastings, who bring a fine collection of humorous songs from a woman’s perspective.

On the stepdancing front we have the wonderful visiting group The East Anglian Step dancers with Flying Feet Percy West. They’ll be dancing in and out of the pub, and in the concert.

Fiddler Taz Tarry is coming down from Hertfordshire to play for stepping and lead the tunes, and Travelling Folk, led by Terry and Stephanie King, will be on hand to host a session in the bar at lunchtime.

Variously leading the singing, playing and stepping during the day will be the organisers, singer and stepdancer Rosie Davis, and stepdancer Kerry Fletcher (who will be ably supported by fiddler Tim Brooks) and singers and musicians Julie and Gavin Atkin.

The whole event will be topped off in the evening with a celebration ceilidh and barn dance in the village’s Memorial Hall with music from local festival stars Florida and caller Chris Pitt.

Music and singing sessions will again take place at Frittenden’s splendid Bell & Jorrocks pub – those who came last year and found it a bit crowded will be pleased to know that it now has yet another room that we will be able to use.

Wath Festival was established in 1974 and by the people of the community for the community. Thirty six years later the event has gained local and national recognition for being one of the friendliest festivals in the region.
The Wath Festival committee are already making plans for the 2010 event taking place on 28th April to 3rd May

Black Horse Festival 2010 will be moving to a new bigger and better site. less than two miles away from the original venue.

All the details are now on the updated website, the concept will not change, still keeping the usual respected line-up of Blues, Folk, World and the favourite party night, but now there will be an additional acoustic stage. Both stages will supply live music all day and there will be no break between afternoon and evening!

Music and Festival Event

Bus Stop is a fantastic two day 'not for profit' VW Event welcoming all owners of Beetles, Golfs, Splits, Bays, T25's, Variants, Polo's, Lupo's, T4's, T5's and any other Classic or Custom VW out there. Arranged by a group of VW Enthusiasts who are in it for the love of VW's and the Welfare of Animals, so you know the atmosphere is great and food/drink prices good at this fund raising event.

The plans for Tenterden Folk Festival 2010 are already taking shape and there are several exiting changes and developments.

The first major development is that this year’s festival will start on Thursday evening and also for the first time, there will be events during the day on Friday, as well as the usual evening events, making it four days of folk song, music and dance. On Thursday evening we will be presenting a special show in conjunction with The Sinden Theatre at Homewood School. Waltzers & Wonders: the Wakes is in Town features nine of Derbyshire’s finest folk performers: Ian Carter, Keith Kendrick, Sylvia Needham, Sarah Matthews, Doug Eunson, Michelle Short, John Adams, Alan Squires and Howard Mitchell. The show is a musical journey through a fair and made a big impression at a number of large folk festivals lasts year. Plans are also well advanced to relocate the craft fair and parts of the music fair and street stalls into several large marquees on the Recreation Ground on Saturday and Sunday. This will enable us to expand the number and variety of stalls and to use the Town Hall for other festival events such as workshops, concerts or a dance. The music showcases, previously known as “the Woolpack Stage”, will also relocate into one of these marquees. We will still be using the Tenterden Junior School hall for the stalls selling musical instruments, CDs, and similar items.

Festival events will again be held throughout the town including The Tenterden Club, St. Mildred’s Parish Church, the Church Hall and of course the main town centre public houses as well as the streets and coach park. Hopefully the newly paved area outside the Town Hall will also improve the festival facilities.
