Do you know anyonethat could help me with some recording technique in our part of Kent please? ( an engineer or small studio, that's familiar with using music software

I'm actually using Mackie Tracktion recording software )I'm trying to find someone in Shepway, Dover, Ashford, or Thanet. I just need a few hours with someone that knows their stuff when it comes to music software ( as it's all a bit new to me, having just got rid of my Alesis Adat! ) Just a bit of 1-to-1 tuition, happy to pay the going rate, but need someone that can explain things (calmly & simply!)I know there are a few guys advertised on Kent Gigs,but half of them still seem to using older gear!

Hiya, To start with,Here at Dirt Track Studio we are totally into all music. We work & live it and have been doing so for many years. For the last 6 years we have been living and working in Europe recording every form of music from String Quartets to Metal! and sometimes both together!! Anyway...Now we are set up in a very old building in the Kent countryside 8 miles from Canterbury & Ashford. We have a bit of a thing for doing things "old school" so all our gear allows us to do in or out the box recording & mixing using Allen & Heath, Mackie or Soundtech desks. We also have many other English valve & trans pre's so we can find the sound (hopefully) you are looking for. We have racks of outboard gear from Lexicon, Joe Meek, M Audio, Soundtech, Focusrite, TL Audio and others. As for microphones, we have over 40 on the shelf with all the usual makes and some unusual! There are 3 rooms plus the Control room (all with air con)

We can record up to 24 tracks in any one take & up to 96 for mixdown The Drum room is perfect if all you want to do is come in to lay down drums to take away (many bands do this with us as it is hard to do drums at home etc) The 1st live room is a great working space with good visibility to the Drum & Vocal rooms for easy full live recording. We also have separation screens if required. Just to let you know that FM Studio in Gillingham is refurbished and functioning again. We are also allied to Gabra Publishing in Southend if anyone wants to have their original compositions ( or talent ) listened to ( wherever recorded ).
Apart from being able to record at FM at reasonable rates, courses of singing and guitar lessons there are in the pipeline.

Smallfishrecordings is just getting off the ground and I need to develop a portfolio. This means that for one lucky act, I'm offering to work for the fun of it and help record, develop and produce thier material gratis. I want to stick to a fairly narrow genre at first, so this offer will most likely suit a solo singer/songwriter looking for their first production experience.

It's as easy as ABC
A - two 7 hour days recording
B - half a day mixing and producing
C - professional band profile + 30 printed CDs

It's Rock n Roll 'catch 22' - you need gigs to earn money to make a demo, you can't get gigs coz you haven't got a demo !

Let's face it, no one is going to give you a professional demo so you must make sure the demo you get works for you as hard as possible. We at SoundArt are all active musicians and we know just how hard it is. That's why we have come up with the DEMO Pack idea.

Firstly, you get two 7 hour days recording, not mixing or mastering, just two days recording. Then you get half a day to sort out the mix and production and redo any bits that need redoing. Secondly, while you're at the studio we'll gather most of the info we need for your band profile and take photos etc.

Once the mix and production is right we then master the CD, complete your profile, and duplicate and print 30 CDs (each CD clearly printed with your contact details). When all is finished you get a box with 30 padded envelopes each containing a CD in a case and a professional looking profile.

All you have to do now is address each DEMO Pack and post it.

Rehearsal Studio - SoundArt has an AIR Conditioned Studio in Sittingbourne. The rehearsal room has a Mackie powered mixer with floor monitors, Gallien-Krueger bass rig and a Laney HCM60w guitar amp, and a drum kit with Meinel MCS or Paiste 302 cymbals all permanently set-up and ready for your use.

If you want to use your own kit then you'll be happy to hear there is easy access from your boot, and there is plenty of secure parking right outside. We keep a stock of strings and plectrums !!

We pride ourselves on providing clean and uncluttered facilities. There is a DDA toilet, and a kitchen area with microwave and fridge [to keep the beer cold]

Online Mastering

On-Line Mastering - our service allows you to upload your mix files and instructions to our secure server. When we've mastered your music we'll send you a link to our server where you can listen to short clips of each track that includes the intro and outro fades. When you are happy we'll sort out the payment and then you can download your mastered file, or we can post a disc to you via recorded delivery - it couldn't be simpler!

Off-Line Mastering - If sending your mix files via the Internet is not possible then send us a data disc by post.
Special Services - A range of services eg. format conversion - vinyl to CD

How much does it cost ?
BUDGET = £15 per track
This is ideal for demos. We unify the levels and sort the gaps between tracks and generally make your music presentable! We will endeavour to turn these round ASAP but give no commitments - we do these between other work: Standard and Enhanced get priority.

STANDARD = £25 per track (minimum of 4 tracks)
Ideal for demos and EPs. We cover all the usual Mastering tasks taking particular care to match levels and EQs, optimise fades and gaps. We endeavour to turn these around within 3 working days (excluding post and upload delays) Enhanced get priority.

ENHANCED = £45 per track
Everything from soup to nuts. We spend a lot of time listening and tweaking all the areas of Mastering. We test our results on various systems: cars, iPods, HiFi systems etc etc. We upload test samples so you can agree with what we have done to your music.

Irish/World Folk International Musician Tim Edey is available for Gigs, Concerts, Teaching, Recording sessions, workshops, Record Producing and Composing.
Tim has toured the world with the biggest names in Irish/celtic world music and is one of the most popular session musicians in Folk Music. He is the Uk's Top Accordeon and Melodeon player and has been been described as "one of the best Irish Guitarists on the scene". He plays no less than TEN different instruments to a virtuoso level and is perfect for recording sessions and can add alot to any kind of music.

Tim Edey also has a portable professional recording studio "Strathnairn" Productions and his own cd "Daybreak" has been played on BBC Radio Two, Radio Kent, and on many Irish Radio shows.
