Red Admiral Records
Red Admiral Records was the label created by the desire of Chris Ashman and Mike Craig to have an outlet for the in-house productions of Europa Sound Studios, particularly those of the aspiring Arthur Kay whose recordings were praised by certain parts of the recording industry but then put on the back burner to protect their mainline artistes. Eventually the trio decided to do it themselves.

Nymph001- Ska Wars / Warska - In 1979 the first 7" Ska single on the label was released, with a photographic cover showing Arthur Kay on his scooter and mock Mods & Rockers battle scenes. The cover was nearly the downfall of the single after problems with the printer going bust, delaying the first release and re-pressings. Only about 3,500 copies were sold to distributors before they got bored with the cover ( Most of them never listened to the recording, all they were interested in was stuffing photographic covers into boxes to go to New York, Paris, Brussels etc.) Now, in the 21st century their actions created a shortage of a very popular single making it a valued collectors item. The song was originally recorded at slower tempo but was speeded up a little to stay with the then current trends.

Nymph002 - Play My Record / Sooty is a Rudie - Arthuir Kay's Originals -1980 was financed out of the profits of Ska Wars, this time with a cheaper wrap cover around the standard white sleeve basically with the message "Play My Record and if you want more info, its on the back".
Photos were taken at the Dolphin in Herne Bay 3rd April followed by a cup of tea at Arthur's house. The cover designer Hattie Miles said "I'll never forget that night". Arthur was getting very stressed and him mum kept going on about some conflict around the world. Those words still echo around the heads of everyone there. " Oh mum, don't go on about the war - I've got a record coming out". Anyway on 16th May out it came. First Radio Airplay on Capitol Radio 10.10 pm. Nicky Horne Show. Everything slowed down after about 1500 sales despite the resonable airplay by the radio DJ's enjoying the working class recording hero 'taking the mick'. Pinnacle the distributors went bust and the rest of the stock impounded, never to be seen again.' Don't you hate it when the big boys rob you of your money and your stock?'
Sooty is a Rudie was never meant to be a serious attempt at a pop record but 20 years later it is still to be heard in the odd Spanish disco and holiday camp environment. The kids love it and there are not many words to learn. Some mint copies still available musicbiz@kentgigs.com
Nymph003 - Craig and Benltley/A Time to be Brave - Bilko - was released privately by Arthur via Red Admiral as a tribute to Iris Bentley who had fought so many years to clear her brother's name.
Derek Bentley was in the custody of the police after an attempted commercial burglary whenChris Craig shot a police officer, but as Craig was under 18, they hung Bentley, his accomplice......The evidence implied that when the police told Craig to hand over the pistol to them. It was alleged that Bentley shouted "Chris, let him have it" or "give it to him". We will never know the truth but this record kept the fight going and gave support to Iris in her lonely vigil to have Bentleys body buried on hallowed ground. On the anniversary of Detek's hanging, Iris and her supporters would meet in protest outside of the Prison.
